Three: Who Is Richard Van Ingram Anyway?
1966 – Born and raised in Lumpkin County, GA.
1984 – Graduated Lumpkin County High; Awarded Jaycees’ Scholarship to North
Ga. College.
1984 – 86 – Attended North Georgia College (now and State University),
Dahlonega, GA to study Fine Arts and English Literature. Awarded Gloria
Shott Fine Art Scholarship 1985 and 1986 (returned ’86 scholarship to
transfer to UGA).
1986- 87 – University of Georgia, Athens. Studied printmaking, European
history, and philosophy.
1987 – 91 – Georgia State University, Atlanta. Studied printmaking,
painting, film history, art history, world history, U.S. Government, and
philosophy, especially philosophy of religion. Awarded the BFA in
Printmaking with a minor in art history; additional specialization in
philosophy.
1991- 93 – Georgia State University, Atlanta. Studied philosophy:
aesthetics, philosophy of religion, especially Early Christian thought
through the Reformation, the Gnostics, the Church Fathers, especially St.
Augustine; St. Thomas Aquinas; Classical Philosophy, especially Plato;
Phenomenology and Existentialism. Master’s Thesis: The Implicit and
Explicit Metaphysics of Jose Ortega y Gasset. Awarded the MA in
Philosophy; extra studies in communications theory.
1993 – 94 – University of Georgia, Athens. PhD Candidate. Studied
metaphysics (A.N. Whitehead and Process Philosophy), Phenomenology and
Existentialism, with a study of Post-Modernism (Husserl, Heidegger, Lyotard),
symbolic logic. Degree incomplete due to funding issues.
Taught Adult Education in history of philosophy and theology for the Roman
Catholic Church in Dunwoody, GA; painted ikons for the Orthodox Church of
St. John Maximovich in Grant Park; has taught Ethics and given introductory
lectures in Philosophy.
Freelance writer and illustrator in the 1990s for horror gaming companies.
Tattooist at a licensed shop for a year and a half in the early 2000s.
Has worked for public mental health since 1995. Presently teaches classes in
symptom recognition and recovery and normalization skills.
Wrote a freelance column on philosophical, theological, and political issues
for The Dahlonega Nugget, July 2002 through autumn 2006. |
