BLASPHEMY:
Newt has come out, in the wake of the bombings in Israel, in favor of more military spending to help prevent terrorism. Sound reasonable? Perhaps if you're not paying attention. How does a larger or more powerful military help prevent terrorism? Perhaps in a quasi-military state such as Israel, where the military functions as a police force, this might make sense. However, here at home, how would a larger army have prevented the tragedy in Oklahoma? Even if there IS some organized way to prevent suicide bombing, the military is NOT the body to prevent it in this country. It's the police force, either Federal or local, that has to handle it. How does a larger U.S. military prevent terrorism abroad? Only by bombing suspected terrorists in other countries. Again, I don't see it as the U.S. Army's responsibility. So, assuming Newt knows his ass from a car bomb (I believe he does), why is he saying these things? Gee, I can't think of any large businesses in Cobb that might benefit from more military spending...
