As you may have heard, this Friday is the last party at the Degenerate Press'
location of the last 10 years. What you may not know is that for 10 years before
that my father had the place and I spent every other weekend at the joint so
total it's been in the family for more than 20 years. I've seen parties that
packed the place beyond capacity, the floor bouncing six inches with people
pogo-ing around the room and falling down in the street outside.
Then I took over the place!
You can thank this location for a lot of what Degenerate Press IS, not just
because of its status as our geographic HQ, but because of its past. I can trace
my perverse party addition to this location. I had my first alcoholic beverage
that I can remember here. I saw my first adult party with insane dancing and
modern music here. It ruined me for life.
I've thrown my share of parties at the place. Some have lasted until dawn, some
have died a horrible death at midnight, it all depends on who shows up. Everyone
always asks "Who's coming? How many are you expecting?" blah blah
blah.
Ya' just never damn know. I've sent out 200 invites two weeks in advance and
had one person show up. Another time I mentioned possibly having a small gathering
to a few friends the day before and had the place packed wall to wall with drunken
revelry. It's never what I expect or can predict, so I won't answer those questions,
I just say "You'll just have to be there."
Then some dumbass will miss the party and expect me to give them the full report,
"Who was there? What happened?" On one hand, I feel I should hype
the event so that next time they'll be there. But on the other hand I'm insulted
that they didn't make an effort (it's usually some bullshit excuse) and there's
no way to duplicate the experience with mere words anyway. So I just say "You
should'a been there."
Don't be a dumbass. You should be here.
I'm decorating the joint top to bottom. No, I won't tell you how, you'll just
have to show up.
I'm assembling a soundtrack that you're guaranteed to enjoy at some point. No,
I won't tell you how, you'll just have to show up. If you fear my choices, bring
your favorite song, on tape, vinyl, or CD, from last century and I'll throw
it into the mix.
I'm buying adult beverages of wide variety. No, I won't tell you what, you'll
just have to show up. If you fear my choices or quantity bring your own.
And I'm badgering every degenerate I know into showing up. No, I don't know
who or how many. You'll just have to show up.

EAR PLUGS
Last night we hit the Tabernacle and got in line with tickets in hand to see
The Kids In The Hall. They were obviously trying to retire on this tour with
the absurd ticket prices so we ended up with General Admission - Stand
wherever you like for $35, before TicketBastard service charges. Reserved
seats were almost twice as much so we opted for the cheaper route.
Before the show they had a long slide show with some cool images of the Kids
youthful days and pre-TV acts. It was fun. When they finally went on the show
was good, but not great. If you have cable youve seen easily 70% of what
they did live on reruns of their show so I wasnt impressed, but I did
get more than a few laughs out of the evening. Not something Id have paid
for had I known, however. Ill stick to the reruns in the future.
