EAR PLUGS
Degenerate LS sent this:
I saw Alice Cooper at the long defunct Municipal Auditorium when he was
touring in support of Eighteen and other classics. Of course they weren't
classic yet. It was a really great show and that is the way I want to
remember him. This whole Republican, golf fanatic Alice just doesn't do it
for me although I admit to owning Monsters and Mascara. His stage show at
the time was so killer that it started to freak some people out. Some
thought real ghosts were on stage. I had a great time at the show, that's
my story and I'm sticking to it.
In other news, degenerate PK of Shuteye Records and various local bands has
announced his engagement. Its one of those year-away things that youll
forget about long before it ever comes to be, but if you know him give him a
big slap on the back and say Its been nice knowing you.
In slightly outdated news, Immortal Lee County Killers lost half the band! Of
course, with a two-piece lineup its really just a single change, from
Doug The Boss Sherrard to former Quadrajet JRR Tokin. You can catch
the new lineup in Athens at Tasty World on Oct. 27. Rumor has it theyre
going to change the name to Immortal Lee County Killers II.
BLASPHEMY
Degenerate LW sent us this:
I have been interested in Afghanistan for a couple of years now, and a few days
after the WTC acts, I put together a quick website full of the links I had gathered
over some time. I am hoping that the site will provide a resource for people
interested in learning about Afghanistan and Islam in some attempt to dissuade
the mass hysteria going on. But the main reason I created the site, and it seems
more important now than ever, was to put faces to what is now becoming "collateral
damage". I browsed through your recent edition of Degenerate Press and
noticed your reference to collateral damage. Maybe you could post a link to
my site? (it's only a geocities site because I can't afford a domain and server...someday
I wish to expand on the site, but for now it will have to do, as is) http://www.geocities.com/nocollateraldamage
In other news, your editor went and filed for unemployment today. Its
been 7 years since Ive been in that office and the good news is the process
is a bit easier to deal with. The bad news is its busy. The company I
used to work for had several of their clients use Sept. 11 as an excuse to postpone
their projects until the new year. The reality is the economy wasnt doing
so hot anyway and this is a handy way to delay some expenses. Such is life.
I wasnt really heartbroken by the layoff its only a job.
The timing sucks, admittedly. Im broke after a wonderful vacation and
I needed the money to get my car up and running, but at least my (wonderful)
girlfriend is still employed and we can put food on the table and in the cat
bowls. Frankly, Im sick of the computer biz entirely but unfortunately
Im good at it and it pays well so its tough to talk myself into
starting anew, particularly looking at my bank balance. So Im cruising
the job boards, digging through the papers, and hassling everyone I know for
leads. Stay tuned.
In national news, we have a new Office of Homeland Security here
in the U.S., as if the FBI, CIA, NSA, ATF and countless other organizations
were not enough. I dont think the problem is a lack of organizationS,
but a lack of organization. (And you thought the Republicans were for a smaller
government!) But we Americans just love empty politics and policies and things
with fancy titles but little or no practical function. (Look at Sport Utility
Vehicles, something almost never used for sport, and with limited utility.)
Weve also got bill after bill of increases security, i.e. decreased freedom,
to protect us from them, all the while slowly turning
us INTO them. The whole point of living here vs. there is the increased freedoms,
right? They come with risks, admittedly, but so does getting dressed in the
morning. At least I get to pick my own clothes.
