"Through life's road, so dim and dirty,
I have dragg'd to three-and-thirty.
What have these years left to me?
Nothing - except thirty-three."
Byron, from Life of Byron

AFTERMATH
Wow. I figured with torrential rains and lighting coming down all around the neighborhood nobody would show. I figured with the competition from some great bands in town Saturday night, and me being too slack and busy to promote the party in person as I usually do it'd be just me and a couple of degenerates sitting around playing Jenga and getting hammered wishing someone else would show up.
Boy did I figure wrong!
I'm sure the weather kept a few folks away, but it didn't dampen the spirits of the dozens that showed up. Sometime around midnight the kitchen and living room were packed to capacity and the crowd spilled out into the muddy yard. At least it'd stopped raining by then! I'd like to thank everyone who attended. It was a complete success. I'd like to specifically thank those who brought new blood, in multiples of three!

"In married life three is company and two none."
Oscar Wilde, from The Importance of Being Earnest

Lots of new faces and smiles on all of them so apparently we did something right. Badger those folks into subscribing to this ezine! I handed out cards but I was a bit too intoxicated to think of getting email addresses from everyone, and looking at the one thing I did write last night it wouldn't have done any good anyway 'cause my handwriting looked like one of those example slides they showed us in driver's ed class, "This is a person's handwriting after 3 drinks. And this is after 4. And this…" One great thing about throwing your own party is you don't have to drive home. On the other hand the morning after the joint is trashed. The entire ground floor is sticky and muddy, and even half way up the stairs to the second floor it's grimy. There's boxes and boxes of beer bottles and plastic cups. Crushed limes litter the yard, along with scattered napkins and remnants of party food. I was too hungover to get out of bed and say goodbye to the degenerates that had crashed here and I'm still so fuzzy I've had to rewrite every sentence in this email at least twice, just to make it as barely coherent as it is now! All signs that there was a good throw-down!
Favorite quotes of the evening:
"I've been looking at the Degenerate Press web site for a couple of weeks and I still can't figure out what it is you DO."

"Is (degenerate DM) always like this?"

"I heard some music earlier - almost all bass and kinda experimental. Who was that?"
"Uh… I don't know but it might have been this very early Parliament, a record most folks probably never heard of."
"I've never heard of Parliament."
"Oh… my."

"All your base are belong to us! Somebody set up us the bomb."

Happy birthday to degenerate DM and DC. I'm honored that you both spent them here at the Degenerate Press HQ, and brought your groupies to join in the festivities. We had requests for photographs of the event to be posted online. We don't normally do this - A) if you missed it it's your own damn fault and you should'a been there. B) We're lazy. But we have started archiving the party invites online so perhaps we could put up a few of the best pics from the events as well. If there's anyone who doesn't want their face on the web let me know and I'll make sure to put one of those goofy black rectangles over your eyes, at least in the pornographic pictures.
As always, some of you asked when we were gonna do this again. If I had to guess, I'd say we're having the annual Summertime Blast on July 7, Saturday. If it's anything like previous years, there will be all the barbecue you can eat, all the beer you can drink, all the bands we can muster, and all the explosives we can afford. Stay tuned for details, but go ahead and reserve that weekend if you need to plan ahead. I'll be ramping up the organizational effort for that as soon as the hangover wears off.
