EAR PLUGS
We got the new CD from Nineteen Forty-Five a couple of days ago, "I
Saw A Bright Light", and I've listened to it four or five times
hoping to catch the same grove I got off their first release and it
just ain't there. This release is a little more downbeat, which isn't
a bad thing in itself but somehow this CD just doesn't work. It lacks
the poppy fun of the first release, replacing it with depressing
songs with topics like "painting the walls bright red with a gun to
my head". I don't mind depressing music, but by the end of this CD
you suddenly realize you've listed to the whole thing and you didn't
even notice it had changed songs, one long monotone downbeat drone
like some of the dull moments on a Smashing Pumpkins album. But at
least the Pumpkins knew to kick out the jams from time to time and
change the sound a bit, if not the message.
It's even more depressing because I loved their first release so much
I got them to play the Summertime Blast a couple of years back. I was
really looking forward to this CD, but thought it has all the
technical skills of the first one, I Saw A Bright Light is more a dim
gray. The CD comes out in April, but pick up their first release,
"Together We'll Burn Like Autumn Leaves" instead.
