EAR PLUGS
Friday we headed out after the wraith-of-God-style storms to Echo
Lounge and found the joint all but empty. (What, a little
baseball-sized hail and you stay home? It ain't like it was an
earthquake or something...)
The Boo Hoo Ramblers were on stage doing some low key bluegrassy
stuff that sounded great, but because we'd arrived late we missed
their set to socialize in the back bar.
Sonoramic Commando followed with their new drummerless lineup, a mess
of new material, and big smiles despite the lack of an audience.
There's a reason you hear so many early rock and roll artists on
country stations. There was a moment there in the 50's that country
morphed into rock, taking chunks of blues with it, and that's what
Sonoramic Commando recreate - those early Sun sessions with slapping
bass and rockabilly guitar. Excellent stuff and it's too bad too few
were there to see it.
Danny Barnes (from The Bad Livers) got up and did some amazing banjo
picking and grinning but SW didn't have the constitution to sit
through it after a long week so we slipped out into the night.

In other music news, see the Prophesy section for Bubbapalooza info.
They say they're gonna add some special secret guests in a couple of
days, but even with the current lineup you know where I'll be
spending my Memorial Day weekend!
