FILM FLAM
We headed to Midtown Art Cinema to see Supersize Me the other night, the
documentary you’ve undoubtedly heard about where the filmmaker goes on a McDiet,
eating nothing but McDonald’s for 30 days. It’s packed with interesting
sidebars, like the scene where first graders are asked to identify George
Washington, Christ, or Ronald McDonald (only Ronald gets recognition) in between
his visits to the doctor as his health declines. Other scenes provide perhaps
more information that you wanted to know about what the diet does to him, and is
doing to the world, but they always lead to laughter. Sure, it’s often black
humor, but it’s definitely worth seeing.
