“There is a certain relief in change, even though it be from
bad to worse; as I have found in traveling in a stage-coach, that it is often a
comfort to shift one’s position and be bruised in a new place.”
Washington Irving, from Tales of a Traveller
As hinted at in recent episodes, things here at Degenerate Press are about to
change. No, this is not part of some build-up to an April Fool’s joke.
Crap, some of you people are paranoid! Everything has been confirmed – I am
returning to writing for a paper-based publication. Next week, the Ides of
March, pick up the Creative Loafing and where you once read Scene & Herd by
Andisheh Nouraee, you will find my name in his place.
No, it won’t be much different than what I’ve been doing with Degenerate Press
these more-years-than-I-can-remember. (If you’re a regular reader of Andi’s
column, you already get a profound sense of déjà vu.) So what will become of the
dusty old Degenerate Press? Heck if I know! I haven’t even started writing the
damn column for the Loafing yet. But as soon as I figure it out, you’ll know.
But you will notice new stuff showing up in the Prophesy section – things I
cannot recommend from experience, but need to track somewhere and this is as
good a place as any. I’ll denote this with an asterisk so you’ll know what I say
is good, vs. what I say might be funny to read about on paper.
So I don’t have any reviews of events from this past week. I spent my last
weekend of non-Loafing coverage doing things readers of the paper probably
wouldn’t care to read about – working on the T-bird, gaming, and degenerate SW’s
swell Oscar party.

EAR PLUGS
“I am sorry to hear of Marc Fournier's death. I didn't know him well, but
thought him to be a genuinely nice guy. Early on, he seemed a bit overwhelmed by
fan response. As Soolaiman, he sure could project. I was fortunate to attend the
dual debut of cover/tribute bands Pretty Vacant and Hot August Knights at the
Echo. Many well-versed music fans and talented musicians were dragged to a HAK
show by their respective ladies. Many of them said, "I don't even like Neil
Diamond." I told them they would like the show. Most did.”
