Halloween 2002
Our Party
|
Halloween has become my favorite holiday of the year. As a child it was a close second to Consumass, but as a young adult New Year's Eve ascended to the top spot, thanks to the insane party we threw every year. Now that we can't get that party together any more, Halloween has the most consistent fun. It's got a little bit of the giving aspect of Consumass as kids are escorted to my door, but that's totally voluntary. If I don't feel like giving I just don't turn on the outside light. No guilty feelings, nobody stops writing because I didn't send thank you cards. Then there's the late night, adult-only activities where you get to dress up and be a lunatic without getting terrified stares, instead the more ridiculous you are the more smiles you get.
This year we threw our usual party
with the usual incredible costumes and frivolity. We went with a vague "Return
to Childhood" theme this year (check
out the invite) so SW and I dusted off our Scooby costumes, she as Velma,
me as Shaggy. We'd wanted to do something new (we'd gotten the costumes together
for the premier of the Scooby movie) we'd had a busy month and getting the place
ready for the party took higher priority.
As always, I wish more folks had shown up, but, as always, the crowd that opted
for our party against the dozens of other options Saturday night had a good
time, mixing drinks and mingling to the sounds of our youth, from The Jungle
Book soundtrack to Kiss, while inside the TV flickered images of Land of the
Lost, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and Evel Knievel. Outside folks were popping
the tops of beers in our outdoor theater, watching Betty Boop, Mighty Mouse,
and The Muppet Show.
Congratulations to degenerate CD on his winning entry in the invite coloring
contest, and to degenerate DC for winning the costume contest. There were some
hilarious entries ("Hi, I'm Darth, I'll be your waiter tonight.")
After degenerate JH, done up as Thurston Howell from Gilligan's Island, passed
out in the driveway a bunch of folks decided it was time to head home.
I few folks lurked around until I finally had to kick them out sometime after 5 AM.
