what I want
I am interested in working abroad to expand my experiences and abilities. Currently I am employed full-time with Northrop Grumman on a contract to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.

what I do
As an information architect (or "IA") I serve as an intermediary between the client and the development team, as well as between the visual designers and those who perform the actual programming and implementation. I work collaboratively with clients to define their target audience or end users, and identify those users' needs and expectations. Based on the clients' goals, I help decide what content and functionality to provide to meet those needs, and how to organize and present that content in a way that is best understood by their audience. In addition, I create the documentation that guides both the visual design and the technical implementation. Often I generate HTML and Javascript prototypes and templates to aid in the development process.

what I know
My role is encompassing, as it addresses aspects of usability analysis, subject matter expertise, writing and editing, teamwork and supervision. Above all, it requires excellent creative problem-solving and brainstorming abilities.

In addition to these general skills, I have had extensive experience in HTML, using "raw code" as well as WYSIWYG editors such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, HomeSite, and Microsoft FrontPage. I am also very adept with Adobe Photoshop, Quark XPress, and Microsoft Visio, Word and Excel. I have a familiarity with the capabilities of advanced Web technologies such as CSS, DHTML, Javascript, Macromedia Flash, and Perl/CGI. I have worked on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms.

how I got here
In my ten years in the Web and multimedia software business, I have adapted my skills to meet the demands of an ever-evolving technology landscape. I have advanced from authoring single-diskette multimedia presentations, to designing navigation and content for multi-CD computer-based training packages, to becoming knowledgeable in Internet technologies. I have been involved in designing everything from simple "brochureware" web sites, to dynamically generated content management solutions, to highly functional online tools. Through these experiences, I have found the position of "information architect" to be my most fulfilling role - and one in which I excel. This role is sometimes labeled "user interface design" or "business analyst."
