We visited Paris in 2014 and that review serves as a better guide. This is more just a reminder to my future self and the chance to show off some pretty pictures.
Our AirB&B was a tiny attic space with a bed suspended up by the ceiling and the bathroom so short I had to stick my head out of the skylight to pee (a theme of that particular trip) but the view from that position was nothing to complain about, day or night.
We stayed in the same neighborhood as our previous visit, near the canal. The food options are great, the canal is lovely, it is walking distance to the stuff we wanted to see, it was nice not to have to look at a map too often, and we also wanted to show support to the restaurants and businesses attacked by terrorists a while back. We were curious if there would be any discernible difference in the area. Thankfully, no. Screw you, terror. So – let’s go for a walk.
We did the Louvre last time, so we visited a few of the smaller museums this time, including the Rodin Museum. Magnifique.
Musée d’Orsay is not as sprawling as the Louvre but has plenty of important, impressive, and lovely stuff to see. The views of the Seine and the Louvre from the rooftop patio are worth the visit alone.
As much as I love the museums, the architecture, the parks, and the breezy attitudes of the populace, my favorite thing about Europe is the corner cafes and delis. Slice me off some of that, that, that and that, let me have a few olives and a bottle of wine, top it off with a pastry and I am ready to move for good.
