Bubbapalooza 13

Things kicked off with The Downer Brothers, Star Bar owner
Jim and regular sound man Joel doing covers of Johnny Cash, Tom Waits and
more. Good stuff done with a dark edge. Joel is also in the slightly more upbeat Bully and performs solo as A Night with Duwayne on occasion. See http://www.bullyrock.com/ for more. Jim is also in Greasepaint, when it exists, and other efforts at random. Not a lot of folks were willing to show up at 8 PM to catch this, but it's their loss. |
Next up, Sonoramic Commando, rootsy rockabilly/country stuff that's highly recommended. They have one CD out and are headed back to the studio this summer for a sophomore effort. |
Swap out a couple Commandos and you get The Bluejays, soft,
smooth stuff with a rootsy, rockabilly sound and country lyrics.
One thing you might notice is the number of people in multiple bands. It's a somewhat incestuous community in Atlanta - a lot of people support each other, one way or another. Several people played two or three or more times over the weekend. |
Cletis and his City Cousins do mostly covers of mostly country, mostly with crowd-pleasing results. |
It's pretty much whatever the hell Clete likes. |
And he makes it clear he likes it. |
